Bilan de l'état zoosanitaire des mollusques en Méditerranée française : 1988-2001 ArchiMer
Pichot, Yves.
The fact that molluscs from the Mediterranean have benefited from a privileged zoosanitary condition compared to those of the other French coasts has for a long time limited the control of farms and natural fields in this area. It is only in the early 70's, because of the pathological problems and risks observed in other areas that Mediterranean molluscs started to be stictly under zoosanitory control. This control was however limited until the early 90's. With the implementation of the European directives 91/67 and 95/70 for the protection of molluscs against diseases and their propagation, with the creation in 1992 of REPAMO- IFREMER (with a watch unit in the Mediterranean), the control of molluscs in the Mediterranean has considerably improved. Since...

Contraintes du milieu sur les populations de Donax trunculus L. et Donax venustus Poli du littoral atlantique marocain ArchiMer
Guillou, Jacques; Bayed, A.
Populations of Donax trunculus and Donax venustus were sampled along the Moroccan Atlantic coast from Tanger to Tarfaya (Cape Juby) in 1986 and 1987. All the investigated beaches are surf-exposed and belong to the dissipative system. The geographical distribution of the dominant species D. trunculus appears to be obviously influenced by swell-related hydrodynamics. This phenomenon is controlled by the slope on the nearshore side of a critical 30 m depth, and can be expressed in terms of the distance from the coast of the corresponding isobath. A model of adult density distribution is based on this parameter. When the distance in question is less than 2 km, Donax are absent. The maximal densities observed are on the whole weak and suggest the limiting...

Descriptions of Mikrocytos veneroïdes n. sp. and Mikrocytos donaxi n. sp. (Ascetosporea: Mikrocytida: Mikrocytiidae), detected during important mortality events of the wedge clam Donax trunculus Linnaeus (Veneroida: Donacidae), in France between 2008 and 2011 ArchiMer

Background: Microcell parasites are small intracellular protozoans mostly detected in molluscs and can be associated with mortalities. In 2010 and 2011, strong increases in mortality events were reported in different wild beds of the wedge clam Donax trunculus Linnaeus, along the Atlantic coast of France and the presence of potential pathogens, including microcells, was investigated. Methods: Clams collected in different beds showing mortality were examined by histology. Based on histological observations, confirmatory analyses were carried out, including transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and molecular characterization. Results: Histological analyses revealed the presence of small protozoans similar to microcell parasites in different tissues of Donax...

Incidences des épisodes d'efflorescences de micro algues toxiques sur les écosystèmes et sur les pêcheries de coquillages en baie de Douarnenez ArchiMer
Thebaud, Olivier; Veron, Gerard; Fifas, Spyros.
The commercial fishery for wedge clam, or telline (Donax trunculus) in the bay of Douarnenez in France started in the early 1980ies. During twenty years, the activity has developed, from an opportunistic fishery, into a regular fishing enterprise for 36 fishermen, who derive from it most, if not all, of their revenue. The fishery is nowadays strictly regulated. It is subject to natural variations in the productivity of clam stocks, in relation with meteorological conditions which can strongly affect the stocks. The bay of Douarnenez has been experiencing regular blooms of harmful algae, both of species leading to shellfish poisoning for human consumption, such as Dinophysis (Diarrhoeic Shellfish Poisoning) and Pseudo-nitzschia (Amnesic Shellfish...
